I was just sitting here on this beautiful snow day after the day that I created this blog and I decided that for anyone to visit my blog and actually stay I would need some actual posts about music, so I figured why not review what I picked to be the number one featured music of the month? And so here we are and I am writing this post. Here goes nothing;

Iron & Wine

I personally love the soothing quality that Sam Beam's voice has and how his guitar licks just bring out that attribute even more. I also enjoy his lyrics, mostly because of how much they mean with out being over used by other artists and yet every word is laced with feeling and the meaning is portrayed easily enough, in some cases, that anyone would be able to understand them. I have been listening to a lot of Iron & Wine lately but I am particularly attached to the EP "Woman King" (above picture) and I like to play many of the songs on "Our Endless Numbered Days" but that isn't to say that I don't like any of his other albums, in fact I haven't even heard many of his albums because he has so many out there. I only own the previous two mentioned and "The Shepherd's Dog" but if you as the reader believe that one album is superior to all of the others then TELL ME! I would be more than welcome to listen to more of Mr. Beam and also if you have any artists that are similar that you know of then tell me about those too and I would love to review them!

Rambling…

So, you have reached the actual blog. Congratulations! Now the real test is whether you understand what I am saying or not. I am going to first just start off with my musical preferences and background. I personally enjoy listening to and playing all types of music but out of all of the genres out there, here are the ones that I seem to be drawn back to time and time again:

1.Folk- I love how much meaning the writers, notice I say writers and not “song writers”, put into these songs and also the soothing properties that the melodies have. Note that by Folk I am talking about artists such as Iron & Wine not some drunk guy playing a song about whiskey for ten minutes straight. I also wish that I had more opportunities to know more folk artists and you being the reader may be able to   provide such opportunities.

2.Alternative & Punk- This DOES NOT mean just simply punk, although I do enjoy some punk, this means an artist that has a wide range of genres in their grasp. Some examples include Snow Patrol, Radiohead, and the list goes on virtually forever. I do like their usual simplicity, not applied to Radiohead, but their lyrics are usually blunt and not very meaningful.

3.Psychedelic- Okay, okay, I know that you are going to say that I am a hippy but you can’t deny that some of the best artists of all time are psychedelic in one way or another including Jimi Hendrix and The Beatles. But I mostly like their funky tunes and the way that they’re so damn appealing.

and that is the majority of what I listen to/play in order from most to least. So YOU as a reader must inform me of other bands in these genres but also recognize that I like many other genres and if you find something cool then send it my way and I’ll review it, just because Rap isn’t my style doesn’t mean something good won’t blow that perspective out of the water, I’m always up for something new so just go ahead and lay it on me. Another thing that is true of my blog but also in life in general is that if I don’t like it doesn’t mean its bad, it just means I have a restricted taste and you are obviously more cultured than me.

and it is going to eat your brains out… I am hoping that the previous statement is only metaphorical otherwise I may have multiple law suits on my hands. On a brighter note, preferably an ‘F#’, This is a blog that is typically about music, although I’ll say I am guilty of making anything I write personal, this is one of the many flaws that come with being a writer usually specifically applied to “song writers”. You may ask yourself, “Now why did he put song writers in quotation marks?” and I will answer that I do not consider people that write songs “writers” because anyone can write some rhyming words and sing them, albeit not well in some cases, but what makes a person a writer is their ability to analyze other peoples texts or in this case music and to bring meaning to otherwise seemingly meaningless words. This brings me to the reason that I am making this blog; to educate the world in music and what it means as well as to make more writers rather than “song writers”.
